Why Your Website Needs SEO

WHY YOUR WEBSITE NEEDS SEO

Having a dynamic website is not enough to sell your business online.  If you want to increase revenue, you need to drive traffic to your website, this is where SEO plays an important role.

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is very important for marketing your business successfully.  It is not a mystery only your website developer understands – it really isn’t complicated, but it does require some time and effort.

HOW DOES SEO WORK?

The online marketplace has grown enormously over the past few years and your goal should be to have your website correctly positioned on the Search Engine’s results to drive high volumes of traffic to your website.

Think of it this way – the User is looking for what your business provides (a product or a service) in which case you need the Search Engine (such as Google or Bing) to provide your website as the solution.  Bear in mind that Users generally only look at the first couple of pages of Google’s results, hence the importance of having good SEO to position your website on one of these pages, preferably the first page.

Search Engines, such as Google, use algorithms to evaluate how relevant your website is to the User’s query/search.  Google uses certain criteria to return the results. Criteria including keyword density (see the article on “Find the Right Keywords for your Site”), meta tags (see the article by Thrivehive.com – https://thrivehive.com/how-to-create-title-tags/, as well as what other pages have linked to your website content to determine how much authority your website has on the matter/topic.   A good way to develop this authority is by running a blog. See “9 Reasons you should start your Blog Today”

The more accurate your website is at meeting the abovementioned criteria, the more likely Google is to put your website on its first page of results when providing relevant websites to the User’s search.

IN SUMMARY

Good SEO provides a good combination of criteria meeting the Search Engine’s algorithm which in turn trusts your website and gives it a high ranking in its results providing solutions to Users and therefore excellent online presence for your website.

Remember that your competitors are investing in their SEO daily.  Investing in good SEO is not a one-off job. So, don’t forget to regularly re-evaluate your abovementioned criteria to maintain that Search Engine first page position!
